Ismael Galvez’s life took him in a direction he never expected while working on his Digital Media degree at Utah Valley University.
“I thought I was going to be working in Hollywood doing movies and being in the background with post-production, editing, and graphics,” Ismael said. “An hourly position opened at Nestle while I worked to finish my college degree. About the same time I finished, a position opened in Nestle’s IT department. I applied for it and the manager thought I had the skillset to do it, and the rest is history.”
Since then, Ismael has had a career in IT spanning 17 years. He’s been working at Clyde Companies as an IT Support Specialist for just over a year now.
“I had quit my job and started looking when I came across Clyde Companies,” Ismael said. “I started doing some research on the company and realized that they owned WW Clyde, Geneva Rock, Sunroc, and many others. I was familiar with all those places but didn’t realize that they were under one umbrella.”
That variety and familiarity intrigued Ismael enough to apply. Now he helps take care of all computer users at Clyde Companies.
“I help them with any needs they have related to their accounts,” Ismael said. “I also help when a new computer or other equipment is ordered as well as with onboarding for new employees. We support our employees and help them when they need it.”
Ismael takes a lot of satisfaction in being able to help his coworkers troubleshoot the issues they’re having.
“That’s the most gratifying thing for me,” Ismael said. “There are times when users are really frustrated, and if I can resolve the issue for them and make them have a better day, that’s a really good feeling to have.
“These days are challenging with constant changes in technology. I can feel the frustration of users because we’re constantly changing or updating programs, but that’s the way it is in the world we live in. So, if I can help them and make things easier for them, that’s very rewarding.”
Ismael sees a great career path for anyone looking to make an impact working for this company. He’s also been incredibly impressed with the leadership of Clyde Companies.
“People that join this company are joining a really good team,” Ismael said. “The best part of my job is my coworkers. We have a really good group of people here, and I really enjoy that we are helping each other all the time. I like that I can count on my teammates to assist me. It’s really a family company.
“You often see the president of the company, Jeremy Hafen, walking in unannounced just to say ‘Hi’ to us from time to time. You know that from the top down, they really care about their employees. That goes a long way with morale. It’s a great place to be.”
