As the year comes to a close, we are happy to reminisce about the many projects we were able to work on this year. From structures, foundations and roads, to trails, bridges, parks and more, we are proud to provide the foundational support for this community we call home.
Of particular importance to us in 2014, are our 60 Acts of Service in commemoration of our anniversary. Thank you for letting us play a part in building up our Utah community for the past 60 years. Here are a few highlights from this service campaign:
#8 – A healthy community is a happy community. Each year Geneva Rock Products sponsors the Mapleton Community Fun Run held during the City’s Pioneer Day Celebration.
#11 – After the tragic death of Sergeant Corey Wride, Geneva Rock Products partnered with Walker Concrete to support his family by donating 10 yards of concrete to pour a circular driveway for their recently built home.
#12 – In collaboration with Hughes Contracting, Geneva Rock Products supplied materials for the Fallen Warrior Exhibit at the Fort Douglas Military Museum on the University of Utah campus. This exhibit honors Utahns who have given their lives for their country since World War II. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a 9000-pound piece of concrete from the World Trade Center site.
#21 – Over a three week period, Geneva Rock Products employees visited five elementary schools in the Jordan School District in celebration of Vehicle Days. The students loved learning the ins and outs of concrete mixer trucks.
#26 – In May, Geneva Rock Products donated a truckload of landscaping rock to the Children’s Center of the Neighborhood House program in Salt Lake City.
#27 – Geneva Rock was able to donate concrete materials to the University of Utah for a student-lead research project where concrete structures were tested using various rebar reinforcement configurations. The project was conducted to procure research for radioactive containment in case of earthquake.
#39 – Go Miners! Geneva Rock Products was happy to donate materials to provide a much needed backstop renovation for the Bingham High School Baseball Park.
#48 – In an effort to recognize the sacrifice of fallen Draper police officer, Sergeant Derek Johnson, Geneva Rock Products was able to participate in a joint service project for his wife and son. This summer, Geneva Rock Products, Burbidge Concrete Pumping and Cornerstone Concrete worked together to create a new outdoor patio area for the Johnson home.
#52 – In late October, a crew of Geneva Rock Products employees spent the day working at the Draper City Cycle Park. Crews hauled in bark mulch and then spent the day spreading and seeding the mulch. The seed will sprout and grow native grasses that should keep puncturevine weeds at bay for community cyclists.
#57 – We believe everyone deserves life’s most basic necessities. We are proud supporters of The Road Home and were happy to gift a monetary donation to this cause in 2014. The Road Home is a private non-profit social services agency that assists individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Salt Lake County and along the Wasatch Front.
